This Rakshabandhan Understand the Responsibilities of a Brother

The bond between a brother and sister is inseparable. We have often seen them fight for the smallest of things, such as who will set the table for dinner, but if anyone hurts one of them, the other is ready to fight back. They cannot see tears in the other one’s eyes, especially when it comes to a brother. This Rakshabandhan, we are here to talk about the different responsibilities of a brother towards his sister.

The childhood fights over toys, the teenage threats about spilling the beans and the adulthood understanding about each other, while still keeping the other one in line. Our relationship with our siblings goes through a lot.

However, no matter how much we make the other one suffer, the love for our sibling will always be endless. It is the brother who misses his sister the most when she gets married or leaves home for better career opportunities. And a sister never forgets to tie a Rakhi on his wrist on ‘Rakshabandhan’ (Indian festival). It is, perhaps, the most emotional day for both of them.

Although, when thought about it, a brother has a lot of responsibilities towards his sister. No, definitely not talking about the whole stereotype of ‘protecting the sister’, but about being her backbone and to support her in times of need (or even in general). Keeping this in mind, we decided to dwell on the different responsibilities of a brother, for the upcoming Rakshabandhan. Let’s have a look below:

Rakshabandhan is here to celebrate.

Listen to Her this Rakshabandhan

It’s the year 2022 and your sister may have her own life, a job and a relationship that she deeply cares about. While she might have a journal in which she pours her feelings, she still might want to talk about her life with you. Be a good listener for her and try to understand what she feels. If she is going through a problem, don’t take the matters into your own hands. She needs someone to support her, not to protect her or to give her slack about it, believe us, she already gets enough. While you can assist her in making a decision, no matter how hard it is, you must not take her place.

Be a Good Role Model

A brother always has an influence on his sister’s life and can either be a positive one or a negative one. This places him in a strong position. If you are out there bullying others then you will not be able to be a good role model for her. Try to understand that you need to have a positive influence on your sister and be a good role model for her.

Encourage Her this Rakshabandhan

Whether your sister wants to be a makeup artist or a data scientist, mocking her is not the answer. However, supporting and encouraging her dreams is. If she believes that she can score good grades in mathematics, even though she is not so good at it, encourage her. Your encouragement will bring out her wings and let her fly even when no one else supports her.

Let's make this rakshabandhan a happy one.

Respecting Her

Whether you are older than your sister or younger than her, respecting her will always be appreciated. While it is quite obvious that the both of you will fight at times, that does not mean you do not give her the respect that she deserves. There will be times when you will need to respect her as well as her boundaries and decisions, even if you don’t like them. You will need to give her space and respect that she cannot always be with you.

Conclusion

Rakshabandhan is the day when brothers and sisters shower their love for each other. It is, perhaps, the one day when you cannot catch them fighting. But no matter how much they fight, they will always have that special bond that keeps them together. As a brother, you must know how responsible you are for your sister.
