January OTT streaming guide for Amazon, Netflix and Hotstar

The New Year has arrived, and many of us are attempting to keep our resolutions, while others have already broken them. However, one thing is certain: binge-watching sessions would not be jeopardized. The first month of 2023 seems promising, with the release of new OTT shows and movies almost every day on the majority of streaming platforms. There is such an influx of OTT content that viewers are unsure of what to watch and what to skip. Countering this bewilderment, here is a guide as to which shows and movies to watch in January.

Netflix: What to stream?

  1. Fauda (Season 4): The much-anticipated season finale of the hit series Fadua has arrived on Netflix. The new season, coming after a wait of two years, has gone international this year. The spy and espionage series, which has a huge following, is known for its gritty and mysterious plot. The title justifies the latest season very well, which means chaos, as the season offers a lot of chaos and a cat-and-mouse game between the good guys and the bad guys. The series explores Israel’s intelligence agency’s run-ins with terrorists. In the new season, Doron, who has been sent on leave, makes a comeback, leading their pursuit against the terrorists. The series is intense and, at times, nerve-wracking with its action sequences and plot. Viewers who are new to the Fauda franchise can access all three previous seasons as well.

  1. Shahmaran: The most recent addition to Netflix is a Turkish-produced drama and mystery series. Shahmaran is a mythical creature that is half woman and half snake, which gives an idea about the plot. The series has a mystique element to it, and the show progresses in a very hidden manner from the first episode onward. Its lead character, Sashu, is on a train to Adana to give a guest lecture at a university. She also takes care of personal matters by meeting her estranged grandfather. As the show progresses, mysterious things start happening, and there is a great deal of ambiguity about what is real and what is unreal because of the way the show has been developed. The OTT series is quite unique in its characterisation and plot; it’s worth giving it a chance.

  1. Mumbai Mafia: Police vs. the Underworld—Mumbai Mafia is the latest addition to the Netflix documentary series, chronicling the rise of the dreaded Mumbai Mafia and their subsequent clash with the Mumbai police. The documentary looks at Mumbai Police’s pursuits and the beginning of encounters with underworld gangsters in order to instil fear in them, as well as competition between Mumbai Police counterparts to see who has the highest score in killing gangsters. Mumbai in the 1990s was a lot different than it is today. It was a decade of turbulence rocked by communal passions, bomb blasts, and one thing leading to another. Watch this OTT documentary to see the hidden sides and explosive revelations.

Netflix’s Blast from the Past

  1. The Spy is a 2019 espionage drama thriller miniseries that follows the life and adventures of real-life Israeli Mossad spy Eli Chohen. Men who are fans of spy thrillers surely shouldn’t miss out on this one. Sacha Baron Cohen portrays the role of Eli Cohen with perfection. The series revolves around the years leading up to a six-day war between Israel and Syria. With a lot of suspense and a high adrenaline rush, The Spy is a perfect spy classic to watch.

What Should You Watch on Amazon Prime?

  1. Hunters (Season 2): Season two of Hunters has arrived, with a more intriguing plot. This time the hunters are tracking down the world’s most infamous Nazi, Adolf Hitler! This historical action thriller drama, starring celebrated actor Al Pachino in his first OTT TV series, follows a group of Nazi hunters in the 1970s who are tracking down any surviving members of the Nazi party they can find. The show is captivating, and the arrival of Adolf Hitler, who is said to be hiding in South Africa with his wife Eva Brown in the plot, adds a breath of fresh air to its second season. This alone is reason to watch hunters, Hitler being hunted.

  1. Top Gun: Maverick: Top Gun is back with a bang! The latest addition to the cult film Top Gun, almost 30 years after its release and starring Tom Cruise, is Top Gun: Maverick. Top Gun was highly praised for its air combat scenes and depiction of fighter pilots. The latest addition, coming closer to the first part, is being received very well with audiences and critics alike. The plot follows: even after 30 years, Tom Cruise (Maverick) is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator but must confront the ghosts of his past when he leads TOP GUN’s elite graduates on a mission that demands ultimate sacrifice from the chosen ones! With its spectacular plot and intriguing action scenes, Top Gun: Maverick is a brilliant addition to the Top Gun franchise.

Zamperini, an Olympian, survived in a raft for 47 days after his bomber ditched in the ocean during the Second World War before being captured by the Japanese and being sent to a series of prisoner of war camps. The movie shows the unprecedented grit and resilience of Zamperini, as portrayed by Jack O’Connell. In this emotive real-life drama, a lot is to be learned about the harsh realities of war.

Disney Hotstar : What to watch?

It’s a mobster thriller and family drama depicting people of Italian origin in the United States. This series has won many Emmy awards.
